It's about time Women were taken seriously -
Flood
waters are rising in Houston, Texas. Multiple lives lost. People
have been driven from their flooded homes losing their precious
possessions.
And
what is a section of the media banging on about?
Not
the fact that President Trump had gone to the devastated area to give
his support, (I'm English, and have no political thoughts either way
when it comes to this guy). Instead the gutter press, some of whom
were once respected newspapers, are concentrating on Melania's choice
of footwear.

The
woman was a fashion model. High heels anyone with an ounce of fashion
sense knows, high heels, the
higher the better, go with tailored pants.
She
was wearing the high heels to board the plane en-route to Texas –
once landed she was wearing more appropriate white sneekers. Although
fashion rule breakers, they do look good.
This
post is not actually about the First Lady of the United States. It's
about – HELLO – media
– get your priorities right. What does her choice of footwear
matter? Stop pushing important women into little boxes that says –
bimbos not to be taken seriously. It's insulting.
Same
thing happened when the leader of the Scottish National Party,
Nicola Sturgeon met the Prime Minster of the UK, Theresa May – to
discuss important concerns regarding the two countries long term
future, what did the British press concentrate on? – Their legs. Would
the press have concentrated on such trivia if the two political
leaders were men? Absolutely not.
After
all, this world is not in a very stable position thanks to the
leadership of the male gender. Those same newspapers are constantly
threatening that world war 3 is about to break out. Do they mention
that this is gross stupidity on the part of our leaders? No. Do they
point out the real reason why a country deep in debt might just want
a money generating war – not so far that I have read. But then I've
not read every piece of info on the subject. Like most people, I
gleaned what I can from the establishment media. And how much of that
is fake news? More than we realise I am sure.
Maybe
it's a generational thing. My mother never instilled in me any
expectations when it came to my career.
Women
of my generation, and Margaret Thatcher was one, had to fight whilst
metaphorically, wading up-hill through thick treacle to be considered
worthy of influencing the that time establishment.
On
the surface of the world stage it looks like women have obtained
greater influence in current affairs – it's smoke and mirrors.
There
are currently 15 female heads of government out of 193 countries
world-wide. This list is not likely to grow significantly anytime
soon.
How
do we change things?
Germaine
Greer a feminist icon – said – Equality is a profoundly
conservative goal for women.

“What
everybody has accepted is the idea of equality feminism,” Greer
told an audience of about 500 people at the Kathleen Fitzpatrick
Theatre for the International Women’s Day event.
“It
will change nothing. War is made against civilian populations where
women and children are the principal casualties in places like Syria,
whether in collapsing buildings or bombed schools.
“War
is now completely made by the rich with their extraordinary killing
machines, killing the poor who have no comeback. Women are drawing
level with men in this profoundly destructive world that we live in
and, as far as I’m concerned, it’s the wrong way. We’re getting
nowhere. “If
we’re going to change things I think we’re going to have to start
creating a women’s polity that is strong, that has its own way of
operating, that makes contact with women in places like Syria, and
that challenges the right of destructive nations.” quotation
Germaine Greer speaking at a lunch at the University of Melbourne.
Instead
of drawing equal with men, we have to surpass them. It is the only
way we will eventually change things for the better.
Until
then – we must make sure our fashion sense does not overrule our
sense of the practical.
Using words immortalised by a great movement that brought about immense
change to another oppressed minority - (The American Civil Rights
Movement) -
We
shall overcome. --- Eventually.
