Well Dress me in Chanel and Smother me in Coco perfume .

Chanel is one of those fashion houses that creates clothes not just as an homage to youth, but allows the older woman to look as marvellous as her younger counterpart.

True their clothes are draped over young women walking along the catwalk, that's to be expected. Fashion models tend to be pre-pubescent memories of what we once were, but that's beside the point.

It doesn't matter what your age is when it comes to Chanel clothes - you will look good regardless.
The Chanel suit, or that 'little black dress', is an iconic symbol of feminine elegance.

Then there's - oh my.

head designer at Chanel since 1983. Thanks to him the house of Chanel has had a reverse in fortunes.

Until Karl Lagerfeld came to Chanel, the fashion house had became staid, and quite frankly, no longer chic. The kind of non-chic that only middle class French housewives were interested in.

Thank heavens that all changed in January 1983 - when he showed his first collection, and Chanel as a fashion house has never looked back.

As an author I really shouldn't approve of fashion designs being 'ripped off', by ready to wear, high street, designers.

Copyright theft has happened to me - my books are on sites that give them away for free - that means no royalties for all my hard efforts.
Bloody annoying.
But maybe, copying the latest designs from fashion houses such as Chanel, is not quite the same as ripping of poor struggling writers.

Actually, I don't think this copy-catting, hurts the fashion houses one little bit. The normal folks that buy from the high street shops, such as Next or Zara, are very different from those who get their haute couture direct from a fashion house like Chanel.

A Chanel 'ready to wear' little black dress, will set you back over £300. A one off piece of haute couture  - thousands of £'s.

The great thing about so called 'fashion robbery', is that it allows those of us who don't have bulging bank accounts, to look trendily fashionable without facing bankruptcy.

What then, is so evil about the high street taking the concept, then redefining any given design, to suit the buying public? In other words making the clothes affordable to the general public. It isn't evil. It's commercial good sense.

This blazer from Zara retails at £79.99 - who does it remind you of? Looks a lot like Chanel to me.

And this 'little black dress' again from Zara - is a very affordable £29.99

The Zara website is definitely worth a visit.

What really pisses me off, is, that I can't afford to dress entirely in haute couture, and it's all the fault of those bastards who keep giving my books away for free.

Guess I'll resort to  -

Between the obvious fakes and the incredibly overpriced items - I have decided to scratch that idea.

My quest to dress in Chanel at an affordable price goes on --- Maybe I'll find what I'm looking for in on-line discount stores?

Trawling the internet I have found hundreds of sites that say they sell discount Chanel. Great I thought - here I go.

Now as much as I love Chanel clothes - I am not a fan of the handbags. All that quilting is just not for me. And that's all the discount stores seem to sell.

Perhaps my next novel will be a best seller - and I can whisk myself off to Paris - and shop 'till I drop.

Until, then I'll dream my dreams of Paris in the springtime and watch the fashion show on YouTube.

Oh well - it's not long and the sales will be here........until then I shall dab some Coco behind my ears..... Then I'm off to Zara - or Next - or any of the high street retailers who have great bargains - Help! I've become a convert to non designer clothes - who needs Chanel anyway!!!!
