WE ARE MOTHERS - and always shall be.
Why am I writing this article? Because some prat has come up with the dumb ass expression of - pregnant people - PLEASE how crass can you get! !
Of course it was a man. I make no excuse for using the correct word to refer to his gender - but what amazes me is how many likes and retweets he got. I'd love to know how many of those likers and re-tweeters were women? I'm guessing not that many.
Why the hell should we - women - be coerced into
re- identifying ourselves? We are perfectly happy the way we are. I am a mother - I am not, a once was pregnant person. If we have to become pregnant people to satisfy idiots - how about those idiots re-divining themselves as - fertilization person or impregnator. Which brings me on to the next stage of my rant.
This article by BBC Sussex BBC news Brighton NHS Trust left me exasperated by the egregious waste of precious NHS money.
Brighton Trust has introduced trans friendly terms including chest feeding and birthing parent - how dare they show such disrespect for the beautiful institution of motherhood that woman go through to produce a child.
Attached to the BBC article is another about a transgender man wanting to be named as the father of the child he gave birth to. At least the high court judge who made the decision to deny him the right saw sense. The judge said, 'A person who carries and gives birth to a baby is legally the mother.'
Just as a transgender man cannot impregnate a woman - a transgender woman cannot give birth. They simply do not have the right equipment to do so. Nor can a transgender man, who still has a womb be called father to the child they give life to.
I've no problem with someone wishing to change the sex they were born with. My friend Susan - not her real name - is to me a woman, but she does not have nor has ever had a womb. Sure she can become a mother by adoption, if only she could find a heterosexual man who is willing to look passed her sex-change. So far she hasn't. Which is very sad, as she'd make the most marvellous adoptive mother.
When women are marginalized throughout the world: either because of ideological misogyny or cultural tradition, for the so called enlightened west to even consider, let a lone, spend time and money on creating yet another system for denying women the right to be exactly what they are - women - is profoundly insulting to all women, whether they are mothers or not. And that includes women such as my friend Susan.
Isn't it bad enough that the women of Afghanistan will be forced back into the Burka? Dragged back to the stone age by the fanatical ideology of men incapable of recognising the value of women in their regressive male dominated society.
