How to stop the Boob droop.
Apparently
there are 3 levels of perkiness when it comes to our boobs.
Level
#1 – Bright young thing.
Level
#2 – Not looking so good.
Level #3 – Oh shit.
Sagging boobs is all the fault of the menopause. Apart from night sweats,
irritability, and general all round yukiness, thanks to the menopause as our oestrogen levels drop so do our boobs.
That's
not to say you can't do something about the dreaded droop.
You
can – if you exercise.
I've
seen lots of adverts for creams and potions that you rub on your
boobs to help lift them. Creams don't work, because they can't.
There are some really daft ideas about potions that supposedly stop the
droop. There's the fenugreek paste method. Make a paste using
fenugreek, rub it on your breasts and hey presto – no more sagging
tits. As if!
One
of my favourite nonsense suggestions is Egg and Onion. Whisk egg
white slap it on your girlies, wait 30 minutes – the wash it off using onion
juice. How anyone can imagine that this is going to lift breasts that
have lost their muscle power is beyond me.
It's
not your skin that is sagging – it's the muscles under the skin
that is the problem.
There
are two muscles in your chest area – the main one – the
Pectoralis Major and the Pectoralis Minor.
Basically
to firm up your breasts you need to perk up your pecs – by
tightening the Coopers ligament.
I
used to weight train, life the universe, and just about everything
having gotten in the way of my training regime, my boobs did a
downward spiral.
So
now I'm back to using weights, and before showering I do the 4
exercises in this Youtube video– so far the results are looking
pretty good. Whilst I won't pretend I am a #1 – I'm definitely not
#3.
You
don't need a weight bench and a full set of dumbbells in order to
exercise the pecs. A chair without arms will do, like a dining chair.
And a set of bells that are not too light that you don't feel you are working your muscles.
Sit
in the chair, with your back pressed against the backrest – holding
your bells with your arms out-stretched, gently bring your arms to
your chest. Repeat this 10 times. X's 3 sets. Increasing the level of the weights as they get easier to lift.
And if
exercising is not your thing – then invest in a bra that actually
fits you. This is a very good site to scan through – lots of great
info on getting the correct bra size, etc.
Even
if you have gone through the menopause, you still need to regularly
check your breasts for lumps. I've lost too many friends to breast
cancer – so please – check, and if you are not sure about what you
have found – go and see your doctor.
