Let nothing divide us -
…........don't
you believe it.
We
may be the fairer sex. Women are more likely not to be judgemental,
and are often more accepting of differing sexual practises than the
so called strong sex. We are also less inhibited than men when
showing affection to our own sex in public.
But
one thing we are not – is the weaker sex.
Modern
history has proven this.
The
women of the French Resistance during WW2 – took unbelievable risks
to help rescue allied airmen. Whilst only 10% of the resistance was
made up of women, those who did join, knew, if caught, they would be
tortured often to death, the same as any other member of the
resistance.
Simone
Segouin – fought in the fall of Chartres in 1944. She took part
in actions against enemy convoys, and trains, including attacks
against enemy soldiers and acts of sabotage. You
name it she did it. And
was awarded the Croix de Guerre for her bravery.
She was 18 years old
when this photo was taken.
In
1955 in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa Parks, was arrested for violating
the city's segregation laws.
Her crime? She refused to give up her
seat on a bus to a white man.
She was not the first African/American
woman to do this, but she is the most remembered. Nine months earlier
15 year Claudette Colvin had done exactly the same thing. Rosa Parks,
already involved in the civil rights movement was active in raising
funds to defend Claudette.
These
women, stood up against a social evil at a time, when black men ran
the risk of being lynched for no other reason than being black. That
took a great deal of courage.
Margaret
Thatcher – The Iron Lady of politics. Love her or hate her politics
– she entered parliament in 1959, at a time when women were expected to
accomplish nothing more than having children and looking after their
husbands.
It
was a Russian newspaper that first called her the Iron Lady – in
1976 – they could not possibly have known, how right they were.
In
1979 – she became Britain's first woman Prime Minister, in fact she
became the first woman Prime Minister in Europe. She led the way for
other women to achieve leadership.
When
Argentina invaded the Falklands in 1982 – she became a female
Winston Churchill – She established a war cabinet, never quibbled about the cost of the war, and had the sense to defer to her
military commanders, completely supporting the decisions they made.
The woman – basically – had balls.

I
see a lot of injustice in this world towards women. In the 21st
century many women are still regarded as lesser beings than the men
they gave life to.
Why
am I writing this post? I
am reading a lot of hate messages directed at women because of the actions by a minority of the society they were born into. A society that in many parts of the world, has no regard for the rights or worth of women that we in our western culture enjoy.
Yesterday
in Barcelona – yet again – evil was perpetrated against
defenceless innocents.
As
mothers – sisters – women – we should not let the ideology of
hate divide us.
As
women we must stand together with our gender – and never allow the
hate of men to turn us against each other. We may be different in
religion, colour, nationality, but we are the same together – we
are women.
Maya
Angelou said – Without
courage we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We
can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.
May
your god bless each and every one of you.
