French Beauty

The French Face.

French women go for a natural look. They wear minimal make-up to great effect.

Brigitte Macron, the French president's wife, at 66 doesn't look this good without making an effort. Doesn't matter how much money you have, if you don't work at taking care of your appearance, then the results won't be there for all to see.

Just because you don't have a lot of money, doesn't mean you can't look good. All it means is that you won't be spending £500 for a pot of cream. Ask any beautician and they will tell you, it's not how much you pay for your face cream that counts, it's how well you take care of your skin that matters. A lot of the top brands, in my opinion, are excessive in the beneficial claims of their products. Are we paying for their expensive ad campaigns? All those film stars don't recommend these products because they love them. They do it for the money.

There's a German supermarket (Aldi) – that sells it's own brand of cosmetics (Lacura) – which, quite frankly are just as good as some of the most expensive face creams. Believe me, I've tried most – and many top brands are not as good as they claim to be.

£6.99 for a pot of face cream that is equal in it's effectiveness to an equivalent pot costing hundreds of pounds, is the smart way for a any working girl to keep her looks, and save her money.

But don't just take my word for it – check out these reviews –

Your skin is the canvas – on which you create your individual beauty. The key to unlocking that beauty? Making sure that the base you start from is well cared for.

Keep your skin clean, and you are less likely to get spots. Spots are not just the prerogative of the young, we older women are just as susceptible. A good cleansing regime, morning and evening will pay huge dividends to how your skin looks and feels.

My beautician told me – 'Never use a mud-pack facial masque. It dries out your skin. Use a masque that hydrates.'

As I use a face pack at least once a week. Out went my mud-pack collection – in came hydrating masques. I have to say, my skin does feel a lot better for having chucked away the mud!

French women never apply too much make-up. Most will use a good foundation cream, a contouring palette, and then simplistic eye-shadow to get a sultry look that is so indicative of French women. Just enough mascara to give thickness to eye-lashes, whilst making sure that there is no clumping.

French women take a lot of time and care when putting on their make up, to create the impression that they have spent no time at all. The perfect ideal look for a French woman, is to look as natural as possible. Their whole ethos is to appear, not to have tried too hard. They want the world to see their faces and think, 'That's what she always looks like. She doesn't need to do anything – to be stunningly beautiful'.

The one part of a French women's face they do like to draw attention to, is their lips, with red lipstick.

Bright red lipstick. The deeper the red the better.

Over do the make-up, and it makes you look old.

Under do the make-up, the younger you look.

If, like me, you are not happy using cosmetic products that have been tested on animals, I have included links to information sites on the companies that sell animal tested free products.

By now you must be sick on me banging on about 'French women's chic', so I'll keep this one last thing about creating a French look for yourself, short.

Hair – it's a myth that French women don't wash their hair. They are just as obsessed with their hair as they are the rest of their appearance. Those wild unkempt hair styles – carefully created as is the rest of their incredibly chic selves......
