Writer of the supernatural and other things....

The Warlock's Woman

I have been asked what sort of books do I write.

As a multi-genre author, I thought it might be a good idea to start with my two paranormal romances. The first book I had published was The Warlock's Woman. The second - Half Blood.

The initial publisher I approached wanted me to make The Warlock's Woman, more sexually graphic, something I didn't want to do. So, I said thanks, but no thanks, and sent the manuscript to another publisher. I hit lucky. The second publisher I tried, also wanted my book.

Keith Publications of Arizona – said – yes. It was the biggest thrill I have ever had, to get my first novel accepted not just by one publisher - but two.

I adored the cover of The Warlock's Woman, from the moment I saw it. If you look carefully you can see the eyes of the demon looking at you.

Equally - I love the cover of Half Blood.

Once the writing bug gets you, it's hard, if not almost impossible to shake it off. Since that first novel, I have written 2 paranormal romances, 2 erotic comedies, a Sci-fi, and a book on how to reduce weight permanently.

I'm not the sort of blogger that writes reams of prose just to see her words in print – so like all my articles – I'll try and make this one fun to read, and (hopefully) not too long and not too boring. In this article, I'll tell you about my paranormal novels, and save the other books I have written for another time.

Writing books, and being a blogger, is not my only passion. I am also a medium, and a practising Spiritualist. I had my first experience of spirit as a young child – again – that's for another article.

It seemed natural therefore, that my first book should have a paranormal story-line to it - Erin Roberts is a psychic who falls in love with an aristocratic Spanish ghost, don Rodrigo de Perez Salazar, whilst being pursued by an evil warlock, Marcus Fielding.

Here's the blurb for The Warlock's Woman

A terrible darkness threatens psychic, Erin Roberts mortality. If she cannot escape from it, the darkness will grow and steal her soul.

Satan's demon, Tal-gah-mel controls the darkness through his earthly servant, Marcus Fielding, a powerful, and deeply evil warlock.

With the help of a handsome aristocratic ghost, and a charming, dangerous stranger, Erin finds herself thrust into a world of the dark occult, and demonic possession.

She's in a race against time to save herself from being taken into a dark abyss from which she can never escape – and time is running out.

My second paranormal romance, Half Blood is also published by Keith Publications. This book is a vamp romance with a difference. My vampires are not from Earth but a far distant galaxy.

Here's the blurb for Half Blood -

Harmony Jones is proud that half of her has African American heritage.

What she doesn't know, the other half of her is pure Vampire. Her mother - human. Her father - vampire.

Her birth, forbidden by vampire law, she is hidden as a baby by her father to be taken care of by human foster parents, never knowing who or what she was – the first, and only child of a human mother, and a vampire father.

Harmony's life is turned upside down when the mysterious, Zander Washington, moves into the apartment next door.

Sent by the vampire council to kill her – he does the unthinkable and falls in love with her. To save Harmony's life, Zander must overcome centuries of vampire prejudice against humans, and persuade the council to let Harmony live.

Zander's not the only vampire the council has sent to kill Harmony. Celina, a voracious human hunter is out for blood – and she'll stop at nothing to get what she wants.

But as the vampire inside her grows, Harmony changes from weak human to a devastating hunter equal to Celina.

Ready to take on the vampire world, Harmony, fights alongside Zander, to claim her birthright of – vampire.

There is no doubt it is great to have a publisher – but – and there is always a but to everything, the royalty percentage you get from a publisher really cuts into the amount you earn. Especially, if like me, you are a new kid on the block.

There used to be a stigma to self publishing. Not any more, thanks to companies like Amazon and Smashwords.

Vanity publishers, in my opinion, are not pukka publishers, and not worth using, unless you have cash to throw away. They will edit, proof-read, and publish your book, no matter how bad it is, for a fee

Quite frankly a lot of the indie published books on Amazon: fit somewhere between the bad to dreadful, and absolutely appalling categories. The thing is – the would be author gets to publish his/her badly written book for free. Whereas with a vanity publisher, he/she, has to pay, quite often a lot of money to publish a shoddy piece of work that could have been published for nothing.

Why did I go indie with my third novel? Money, I get to keep a lot more of my earnings, and I get to control the whole publishing process from beginning to end. If I don't like how the book looks. I can change it. If I think the wording on the cover needs a revamp, I can rewrite it. It's all up to me. It's doesn't mean that the book is not professional in content or presentation, in fact, in many ways it's even more so, because I have sweated over each and every detail to make my indie book perfect.

Of course, should one of the big publishing houses beg me to let them publish my novels, thrusting me to the top of the best sellers list – who am I to say no?
