Meet the style Guru - he'll show you how to look great in clothes --

Yesterday I read a magazine article that talked about copying Megan Markle's fashion style.

And I ask - why?

She is a very pretty woman - but her dress sense - does she really have any?

Surely I'm not the only one who thinks she dresses badly?

Put her alongside the Duchess of Cambridge, and there is simply no comparison between the two women.

The Duchess oozes cool elegance.

Megan, shouts unpolished gauche.

I don't doubt for a second, a woman with her abilities, (after all she's bagged her Prince Charming - girl done good), and her tenacious determination, which  I admire by the way, will in the future develop into an elegant refined member of the British royal family. However, she is at the moment, sadly lacking in any 'need to follow' for the style conscious fashionistas. And any fashion editor worth his or her vast salary plus perks, should know this.

That said, this article isn't actually about her fashion sense or lack of it -

- nor is it about sycophantic magazine editors that think women should follow a fashion type, even when it is obvious to anyone with a modicum of fashion sense - that this is a dress style with room for improvement. It's about women who have the ability to think for themselves.

Showing me shiny pink plastic looking high heels, does not make me want to rush out and buy a pair just because some celeb wears something similar. It suggests to me that the mag editor thinks her readers so shallow they will abandon good taste just to copy a celebrity's bad dress sense.

Being a follower of fashion does not mean slavishly trialling along with whatever a fashion editor tells me is the latest must wear trend, simply because the new girl on the celeb block is wearing it.

I have a brain, and a keen sense of what looks cheap. And shiny plastic looking pink high heels, looks to me - cheap - and nasty cheap at that.

It really is not that difficult to create your own individual fashion statement. You don't have to have a lot of money - what you need is colour sense, a bit of individual creativity, and understanding what looks good on you and what doesn't.

Easier said than done? Not really - there are lots of fashion gurus who don't dictate style, but guide the wannabe follower of fashion on how to achieve  the perfect look that suits them.

Women come in all shapes, sizes, colours, and ages. But the one thing most of them have in common - they know what looks good on them, and what doesn't. They are not going to wear something just because a magazine editor tells them they should.

It's a big mistake on the fashion editor's part, to think that we will troop off to the high street and buy a copy of something that looks like something the latest name in the papers wears.

This assumption that readers of fashion magazines have no style sense unless big Momma editor, leads us by the hand to it - is quite frankly insulting.

I'll admit - some of us find it easier to put together sets of clothes that enhance our looks. Whilst others - find getting that right balance of colour and style to suit our shape a little harder. But -
I believe there is no point in copying a style that is crap to start with. And definitely no point in getting your fashion conscious knickers in a twist if you don't know how to create your own super style. Not when you've got someone like Gok Wan to come to the rescue - he's one of my favourite style gurus.

This guy's a genius when it comes to showing ordinary women, who don't have a lot of money to spend on clothes, how they can create a fabulous look for themselves. He doesn't tell you what to wear, he helps you choose the type of clothes that look good for you. Gok let's you dictate your style, and he inspires you to create it.

I love that he's not fixated on designer clothes for the narrow band of women who can afford them, but understands that the vast majority of women, who love clothes, also need to stick to a budget.

It's probably one of the reasons, he's teamed up with the UK supermarket chain Sainsburys to head their Tu clothing range.

I especially love how Gok shows you to - 'work your wardrobe' - to create a wardrobe filled with style that lasts.

Why am I banging on about Gok? Simple - he understands real women - doesn't talk down to them - and appreciates their individuality.

'Most older women are bored of their wardrobes and possibly stuck in their ways - they've looked the same way for numerous years and they don't know how to get out of that style rut. They're scared of dressing like their mums, but at the same time know they can't dress like a teenager anymore.

'Fashion and style have no relation to age, if you're in your seventies and love Topshop then wear Topshop, its up to you. And equally if you're in your twenties and want to wear a pinafore and a peter pan blouse then don't be afraid to do it! It's about having your own style and understanding what you appreciate and what you like.'
quoted from an interview in  -Prima

There are countless fashion consultants on the web - books, and YouTube videos to choose from - but - and as far as I'm concerned it's a big but - I've yet to find one who really understands me as a woman, as well as Gok does.
