To feel good - Eat a rainbow everyday

Have you ever looked at the colour of your food?

I guess colour over taste is not something we think about that much.

But stop for a moment, and think - why do I feel so good after specific types of food? And so bad after having eaten others?

Putting a rainbow on your plate is putting health into your body.

Balancing your food intake by the colours you eat makes a lot of sense.

Fruit and Vegetables - are colourful -

Chocolate on the other hand - well let's face it - it's the colour of -
poo.

Eat too much chocolate or anything overly sweet, and the chances are you will feel sick. And it's not difficult to overeat on sugary foods.

The confectionery industry adds colour to it's products for a reason - to entice us to eat their products. The industry wants you to overeat - over consumption is good for profits. And making vast profits is all the processed food industry is about.

We have lost our balance when it comes to certain types of food. Why? Because we have been fed a diet, pardon the pun, of excessive eating is okay. The idea that we do not need to eat between meals has been replaced with the idea that we are deprived if we don't have snacks. Who put this idea into our heads - you guessed it. The food industry.

Refined foods are not balanced. Why on earth would I want sugar in a ready meal such as beef lasagne? Next time you are thinking of buying processed food check the ingredients - the higher up on the list an ingredient is - the more of it there is in the product. And sugar, is unfortunately, added to most foods. You may think you are not eating a lot of sugar - but you are.

The natural world adds colour without any motive.

The more colourful the food on your plate is - the healthier you are eating, especially if the vegetables are organic.

We all want to eat healthily. So why don't we? Not enough time? The family won't eat what they are not used to? Lots of reasons. So what's the answer?

Add colour to your food. Make your food fun. Brown is boring. Red is exciting. Upgrade your salad to a multi toned feast of red, yellow, orange and green.

All foods contain nutrients, vitamins and minerals, it's just that certain types are better for you in maintaining a healthy balance.

Different coloured foods have different nutritional benefits. The 7 - day Colour Diet is based on the food choices you make in a seven day period  using colour.

Day 1 - White.
Day 2 - Red.
Day 3 - Green.
Day 5 - Purple.
Day 6 - Yellow.
Day 7 - you eat the colours of the rainbow.

If you follow and stick with the diet, you should steadily reduce your weight, and from then on maintain a healthy weight.

For me, I prefer to keep my food colourful with loads of fruit and vegetables, and eat a rainbow everyday, not just one day a week.

I enjoy salads, and make sure that I include a a wide variety of different ingredients using the colour diet principles.

There's lots of ways you can incorporate colour to zazz up your diet, so I have added links to the best websites with bags of useful information about colour at the end of this article.

What's your favourite food colour combination?
